The Scarecrow - Though Jonathan Crane is little more than a stick thin scarecrow running around Gotham City spreading fear to everyone he comes in contact with, he is still among the better Batman villains of all time. The reason? The Scarecrow actually has the power to break through the tough facade of the Batman and reduce him to a fearful mess. The Scarecrow has always been a nemesis that the Batman hates to face, and the fans of the comic love to see.

Dr. Jonathan Crane AKA Scarecrow originally worked at Arkham Asylum (in many renditions of his backstory) experimenting with fear on patients and soon adopted the alias Scarecrow after what his victims began to have nightmares of. What made The Scarecrow a regular Batman villain was his appearances in the ’90s Batman cartoons and Batman Begins.

The Scarecrow is also one of the only people to make Batman feel fear again, thanks to his Fear Gas (patent pending) that induces nightmares. This full blown maniac made his former bully and tormentor crash his car on prom night, paralysing him and killing his lover. Even worse now, The Scarecrow can also transform into the Scarebeast, a giant spiky demon like monster created by The Penguin to kill off disloyal colleagues. In this state he is capable of doing more damage, as well as unleashing even more powerful Fear Gas.

Powers: Cluemaster has a number of plasti-glass pellets attached to the front of his costume that he can hurl as weapons. These pellets variously contain a blinding incendiary flare, smoke bombs, paralyzing gas and high explosives. The Cluemaster is a competent detective and schemer.

Arthur Brown was once the host of a popular daytime game show, but his career came to an end when his show was pre-empted by old cartoon reruns. He blamed people with trivial minds for his failure and entered a new criminal career as the Cluemaster.

Cluemaster's first public appearance was in Gotham City, committing a series of crimes to attract the attention of the Batman. The Cluemaster's plan was to distract Batman while his hired thugs sought clues to Batman's true identity. Cluemaster reasoned that striking at Batman as a civilian would be more successful than fighting him on his own turf. Batman quickly caught on to Cluemaster's plot, and used a series of red herrings to catch the evildoer.

The love of a bad man made Harleen Quinzel what she is today: CERTIFIABLE. While researching Arkham Asylum's lunatic fringe, the ill-fated psychiatric intern met the model murderer, the Joker, and fell for him head over heels. When the authorities discovered that Harleen aided the Clown Prince of Crime's all too frequent escapes, her medical license was revoked...and Harleen was given her own padded cell from which to pine over her "Puddin'." Freed from Arkham after Gotham City's cataclymic earthquake, Harleen made herself over in greasepaint and tassels. As Harley Quinn, she was the perfect partner-in-crime--a curvy jester who delighted in mayhem as much as the Joker. However, the Ace of Knaves quickly tired of Harley's affections and gleefully shot her off in a rocket. Crash-landing outside Robinson Park, Harley was nursed back to health by Poison Ivy, who administered an herbal that significantly enhanced Harley's strength and agility, while making her immune to most toxins. Reconciled with her "Mistah J," Harley hopes to lead him to the altar.

*Batman (1989) was the first Batman movie. Michael Keaton played Batman and Jack Nicholson played Jack Napier, who later became the Joker. In this movie, Gotham City is overrun by the mob and a corrupt police force and Batman must confront his tragic past in order to bring the Joker and the mob down. The film was fairly well received by critics and was a moderate box office success.

•Batman Returns (1992) was the second in the series. Micheal Keaton returned as Batman, Michelle Pfeiffer played Catwoman and Danny DeVito played The Penguin. I must admit that Danny DeVito did an excellent job as The Penguin! Christopher Welkin played a corrupt businessman who is convinced by the Penguin to help him become mayor. Together, they try and destroy Batman’s reputation. The Penguin also kidnaps children from the wealthiest families in Gotham. Batman must work to save the children and clear his name. Reviews of the film were good and the film was a commercial success.
•Batman Forever (1995) featured Val Kilmer as Batman and Chris O’Donnell as Robin. Harvey Dent (played by Tommy Lee Jones) falsely believes that Batman is responsible for the accident that made him ‘two-faced’. Tommy Lee Jones portrays Two Face wonderfully and is very much like the comic book character. Along with The Riddler (Jim Carrey) the two plan to expose Batman’s true identity. Batman Forever was a financial success and received mostly positive critical reception.

•Batman and Robin (1997) featured George Clooney as Batman and Chris O’Donnell as Robin. Uma Thurman plays Poison Ivy, a woman capable of controlling and killing botanical life. She is well known for her posionous kiss of death. Arnold Schwarzenegger played Mr. Freeze, another "cool" villain. This movie was almost universally panned by critics and is unfortunately often listed as one of the worst superhero movies ever made. However, it was a modest box office success, although the bad press probably negatively affected the final box office result. Personally I liked this movie, mainly due to all the Mr. Freeze puns in it.

•Batman Begins (2005) ‘reset’ or should I say change the entire Batman universe. You will find that the old movies were no longer followed, which is a nice change. This was the first movie to feature Christian Bale as Batman. This movie shows how and why Bruce Wayne became Batman. Batman Begins centers on Batman’s desire to bring the mob bosses who control Gotham to justice. The movie was very well received by critics and grossed well at the box office.

•The Dark Knight (2008) again featured Christian Bale as Batman. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) and the Joker (Heath Ledger) were the main villains in the movie. In the movie you will see features Batman and Harvey Dent working together to bring the mob bosses down. And what else to expect but to see the on going battle between Batman and the Joker. Ranked fourth highest grossing film of world wide proportion (at just over a billion dollars), The Dark Knight has universally positive reviews. It is the second highest grossing film ever in the United States. Congratulation to Heath Ledger for winning the Oscar (best supporting actor) for his great performance as the Joker!
